Performance – @Realmanshow

The world first heard about Petr Pavlensky in 2012 when he did his first political activism performance. On July 23rd, 2012, pavilions key appeared at Kazan Cathedral in St. Petersburg, with his lips sewn shut, holding a banner that stated: “Action of ‘Pussy Riot’ was a replica of the famous action of Jesus Christ !!”. Police called an ambulance and sent him for a psychiatric examination. The psychiatrist declared him sane and release them shortly after the incident, but we all know this guy has some serious mental health issues. On November 14, 2012, Reuters published its list of the 98 best photos of the year which included a photograph of Petr Pavlensky with his mouth sewn together in support of “Pussy Riot”.

On May 3, 2013, Pavlensky held a political protest against repressive government policies. His art action was called “Carcass”. His assistants brought him naked, wrapped in multi-layer cocoon of barbed wire, to the main entrance of the Legislative Assembly of St Petersburg. The artist remain silent, lying still and it have been position inside of a cocoon, until the police help free him with the help of wire cutters. This performance was awarded the Alternative Prize for Russian Activist Art (I may have to look into the funding sources of that particular award) in the category Actions Implemented in Urban Space in 2013.

On November 10, 2013, Pavlensky performs probably his most famous stunts ever. While sitting naked on a stone pavement, in front of Lenin’s Mausoleum on the Red Square, in Moscow Russia, this dude hammered a large nail through his scrotum, successfully nailing his nut sack to the pavement.

Then there was a performance called “Freedom”, on February 23rd, 2014, which happens to be Russian Armed Forces Day. Pavlensky and his friends built in imitation barricade in St Petersburg, burn tires and beat drums. Pretty much acting like a jackass.

Later in 2014, in October, he performed his most gruesome action yet. While he was sitting naked on the edge of a rooftop, he used a big kitchen knife to slice off one of his earlobes.

But when he started messing with the FSB, (which is the organization that took over the KGB role), he got into some serious trouble. He’s 2015 performance called “Threat”, actually landed him in some real legal trouble.

All the liberal media outlets praised him for his “bravery” and pledged their support in his “fight against the tyrannical system”.

And here he is, doing his same stupid shit again, but this time in Paris France. as you can imagine that did not go over well with a French authorities. Because the liberals only care about fighting the system far away from their own home, and don’t dare raise their hand on the sacred cult of “Personal Property”, his stunt gained virtually no media attention, and gathered even less support of his so called ‘friends’. Western hypocrisy at its finest.
